Future Ones: It Begins

Part Two: Static

Static sat all alone in the park enjoying the day. He looked around at the trees and other plants. Then to the birds in the trees and the squirrels scurrying around. He closed his eyes, and took in a deep breath of the somewhat clean air. Granted, it did have it's amount of smog, but it was much cleaner than the air outside where he was from, the year 5000. It was also natural, unlike the fake nicely perfumed air from inside the domes, the city's under glass that were cut off from the outside world. It was perfect here. Not a desert waste land and you didn't have to pay to see the trees. But then why did he miss home so much? Static sighed loudly, his short gray coat waving a bit in the wind. He missed home, and the people he considered to be family. He wondered how the resistance was doing. He wondered how the domes were doing. He wished he was there to help somehow, thought the lines to which side he was on was still unclear. Just then at the end of the block where the peaceful park street met the busy city road there was a portal. Static saw it from the corner of his eye. He turned around and stood, to look at it directly in the distance. No one else seemed to notice the light blue time gate. The people on the sidewalk walking by just when past it with not even a second look. Only Static noticed it.

"But . . ." faded Static. He then realized and thought to himself. "If only I can see it Ö maybe it is because it is from my time .Ö" The white canine rodent mix walked carefully up to the time portal. The scent of the year 5000s rebels hideout was attached to it. Static recognized the scent. He smiled as he was about to place his hand in the portal to test it. Static then looked over his shoulder to see a little gray rodent child chasing a ball into traffic with an oncoming truck about to hit her.

Static, even with a temptation of going home, didn't waist a moment to go save the little girl. He quickly left the portal to rush to the little girl. His plan was to grab the girl and run, but it was to late for that. He picked up the child but the truck was too close to outrun it to the side. A spark of electricity came from Static's hand, not caring about the people around that may see. The engine to the truck stopped due to the electric spark. The truck was still moving, since it was at a downhill course. Static gasped then pulling out a pocket watch. The two jagged doors over the watch's face opened and with a beam of light the truck was frozen in time momentarily. Static took this moment to take the little girl out of the street and onto the sidewalk. He then looked over to where the portal was. Static's face dropped as he saw it was gone in the short time it took to save the child.

"Are you okay?" Static asked the little girl. The little girl nodded. "Always watch out for cars in a road, and get an adult to help you across. Okay?" The child nodded again before skipping off. Static smiled watching the child probably wandering off to play with friends. He knew he would have still made that choice if he had to again.
